Lip-Syncing

Due to the unavailability of Tired Angels and their frontman, we decided that I would play the part of the lead singer and guitarist, therefore in order to prepare for the filming of my lip syncing Lara and Molly filmed me singing 'Call and Gone' so that I could get some practise at lip-syncing and have a look at what parts I was struggling more. This was my first proper attempt at singing the song word for word, which highlighted the fact I need to get a sturdier grip of the actual lyrics, specifically the chorus where I kept mixing up the timing of 'put me in the silence' and 'this absence is so sincere.' It also showed me that I needed more preparation concerning the longer words that he sings such as when he sings the names of the angels 'Gabriel' and 'Michael.' However I was able to discover techniques online for holding longer notes, such as singing from my stomach more opposed to my throat.

Filming Day 1

Our 1st day of filming took place in the woodland area between of Hampstead Heath between Inverforth House and Jack Straw's Castle. For this we were filming all the footage of Rebecca who plays 'Eve,' the lead protagonist in our music video.

In preparation for the filming of our music video we turned up to Hampstead Heath at around 1130. Upon arrival we took some photographs of our surroundings in order to get a feel for the light and also get some of the close up shots of insects and the forest in general. This proved to be very helpful as we became more acquainted with the equipment and we even had time to practise a few of the shots we were going to film later. We also se up the apple tree, which proved to be more time-consuming than expected as apples kept falling off.

Rebecca arrived around 2 and we began to film. In order toget the best performance out of her we spent extra attention making sure she was comfortable providing her with food and water, as well as a coat to keep her warm. He filmed for the next 2 and a half hours until it got dark, achieving a variety of different shots including close-ups, an arc shot and panning shots. Upon reflection of the days work I believe that it was a very successful day of filming however if I had to nit pick I was dissapointed with my own performance behind the camera as their are some shots in particular I felt were out of focus.

Shot List

Flow Chart of Narrative

Here is a diagram that shows the Narrative we have come up with so far

Location for Filming

Today we discussed some of the possible locations for our filming and came up with three main locations.

My House- This would be for the more family orientated scenes when the parents will be present on screen.

Hampstead Heath- This will be where we film the scenes in which the girl is in the forest, we have found a good woodland area in between Jack Straw's Castle and Inverforth House.

Hampstead Cemetry- This will be where we will film the scene of the girls funeral, however we are undecided to whether or not we are going to go ahead and film this scene

Ideas for our Music Video: Part 3

Following another group discussion we have decided to make some drastic changes to the narrative of our music video. We have decided against having a child version of our lead protagonist and to just have Rebecca, as extra-curricular activities have hindered Alice's availability. We have also decided against just filming in an old, abandoned house as we do not believe it will provide us with enough imagery to fill the whole song, we are instead going to film in a forest with our central protagonist waking up in the forest following a possible attack or murder. We've also decided to eliminate the death of the father from our video as we didn't want to over dramatize our video and we believed it would be to much of a clique. Although we our now veering away from the actual meaning of the songs lyrics, we are confident our new ideas will allow us more room for creativity.

Camera Angles

Today we discussed and made a list of possible camera angles for our music video 'Call and Gone'
  • Mid shot of the girl walking through the house
  • Shot from up above showing the innocence of the young girl
  • Close up of body parts of the, e.g.  hands, feet and chest  shots of the dad without showing the whole body
  • Panning shot of both older version and young girl walking amongst the house
  • Close up of the young girl’s feet changing in to the older girl’s feet
  • Point of view shot – using shoulder mount. Shows changes from the young girl to the older girl, as the house changes.
  • Use of long shot of both of the girls
  • Tracking shot throughout the video

Initial Casting for 'Call and Gone'

We have made decisions on who shall play the lead protagonist as an adult and child, as well as the father figure.

Rebecca, who is a close family friend of mine will play the lead protagonist as an adult. We chose her due to her availability, as she is a friend of mine who lives in London, and due to her experience in front of a camera, as she has played minor roles in television shows such as 'Law and Order'

My dad Alex will play the part of the father. We chose him again due to his availability and because we thought he would look believable as the father of both Rebecca and Alice.

We cast Alice, Mollys younger sister, as the role of our protagonist as a child. This is because her blue eyes and brown hair make her believable as a younger Rebecca and due to her availability.
